Garage Epoxy Flooring in Chicago

Garage Floor Epoxy Installation Process

The first and most important step of installing a garage floor coating is a simple matter of preparing a clean floor. The garage flooring must be carefully and thoroughly inspected for cracks or chips, as any technical flaws can hinder the epoxy resin's adherence. Garage floors must also be tested for any previously-applied sealants or paints. Any former type of material on the floor can also affect how well the epoxy installation goes.

After the garage flooring has been adequately inspected and repaired of all flaws, the next step is to profile the garage floor. Profiling is the process of exposing pores within the concrete to ensure that the epoxy can adequately connect and form a solid bond. A grinding method is applied to the garage floor to perform the profiling process. Then it must be vacuumed entirely to be free of dust particles as a result of the profiling.

The next step is to ensure, when possible, a controlled temperature between 55-80° F in the environment where the garage floor epoxy is being applied. Then the mixing of the epoxy begins. Both parts of the liquids are combined, producing the standard epoxy mixture. This mixture is then spread on the garage flooring and evenly distributed with rollers. After the initial coat is applied and around 10-24 hours have passed to allow it to cure, a second coat is applied, followed by epoxy flakes if included in the garage floor plan. Lastly, a topcoat is used to ensure the longevity of your garage flooring. Read More about Epoxy Flooring >
